Q&A with Kara Hansen, store owner
What’s your favorite thing to eat?
There is nothing better than a perfectly grilled steak.
What’s your essential cooking tool to have in the kitchen?
A high quality non stick sauté pan. I have the ScanPan brand that we sell in the store and I love it. I cook with my sauté pan almost every day!
How did you end up owning the store?
I was a home cook and I loved coming to the store as a customer. I’m a retired labor & delivery nurse/midwife and I was looking for a new adventure. I had befriended the store’s previous owners and one night, over a bottle of wine, they suggested I consider buying the store because they wanted to retire. I shadowed them for six months and decided it was a perfect fit for me!
Who are your Chef inspirations?
Ina Garten, the Barefood Contessa and of course, Julia Child.
What’s your favorite ingredient to cook with?
I love anything with truffles!
